Charity Challenges

Despite the majority of the Matchstick Men Group working from home since social distancing restrictions were brought into place earlier this year, we still have endeavoured to make fundraising a priority. Over the lockdown period, we have continued to raise money for our chosen charity, Inspire Chorley Youth Zone, in more ‘creative’ ways than usual.
Our virtual charity challenges have taken place over a Microsoft Teams group channel, where our employees have thrown themselves into their fundraising efforts, while having a bit of fun in the process. Starting with senior members of staff, our challenges centred on completing a challenge, donating £3, then nominating 3 people to do the same. These included a 30-second Portrait Challenge, a Keepy-uppy challenge, Bottle cap challenge, Steps challenge and plenty more!

Remote Working

The past 6 months have represented many challenges as we have worked hard to manage the transition to home working for office based staff, whilst recognising the need to support our ‘front line’ colleagues within our warehouse, our drivers and people working in office based operational roles. Our IT team have done a fantastic job of ensuring our teams working from home are fully equipped and from a Health & Safety and pastoral perspective we have made sure we are providing every support possible. As a result we have received positive feedback through employee surveys and have been delighted with the levels of efficiency we have achieved. On every level we have pulled together as a team – which is what we’re all about. As we start our new financial we are excited about what the future holds and feel confident that by listening to our staff, we will adjust to a hybrid working environment which will be much more flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the group.

Further expansion of our Warehouse space

11th August 2020

We are thrilled to announce that we have once again expanded further, taking on an additional 40,000sqft facility on a long term lease – again close by to existing site operations.

The addition of this latest warehouse now brings our total operational space to just under 300,000sqft – across our 4 sites. These great facilities – and the teams working within – will help secure the group’s growth plans for the next 3 years.

New G2S Managing Director Appointed

23rd April 2020

We are delighted to announce the appointment of John Cohring as Managing Director of G2S Limited. John joins us with a wealth of experience in our sector. His previous role was the Commercial Director of Whirlpool Group – the UK’s largest White Goods business. John is excited to have joined the group and through his extensive network will support us in realising our future growth plans.

Training Academy Launch

20th November 2019

The Matchstick Men Group are pleased to launch its new Training Academy for all Product Care Home Delivery Technicians. It brings exciting job opportunities to the local Wigan area, as well as the wider North West region. Expansion of Warehouse space in Hindley Green

12th March 2019

The Matchstick Men Group have acquired an additional 80,000sqft fully-racked warehouse facility close to our existing base of operations in Hindley, Wigan. This new site is being used to support our existing growing palletised distribution operation and to facilitate a number of new and exciting 3PL contracts that we have recently secured. It also provides the group with the capability to support its growing Home Delivery operation as well as creating additional skilled jobs in the local area.

We have also moved to operate 24 hours a day – to help support the supply of quality products to our ever growing customer base.
